Canterbury Park Hosts MOMA State Dart Tournament
State Dart Tournament Returns to the Twin Cities
On January 25-29, 2023, the Minnesota Operators of Music & Amusements (MOMA) held their 37th Annual State Dart Tournament at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minnesota. The previous tournaments have been held in Rochester, MN since 2020.
Players from the state competed in 501 and Cricket singles, doubles, and team events of all levels. There was also a Mixed Trips 701 satellite event. Many of our American Amusement Arcades (AAA) league players competed against other dart players from all over Minnesota.
1st & 2nd Place Winners from AAA Dart Leagues
AAA dart players had some top place finishes in the MOMA dart tournament. For 501 Singles competition, John Aurents, a Shooters league player, won 1st place in the Level 5 division. In the Cricket Singles event, another Shooters player, James Hamilton, won 1st place in the Level 6 division while Guvs Place player Nolan Schoonveld won 1st place in the Level 3 division.
The Drkulas team 3 Turners And A Kern (Chris Turner, Janel Turner, Lexi Turner, and Austin Kern) won 1st place in the Level 7 division of the 501 Team event. Ones Are Closed won 2nd place, Level 3, with team members, who play in a dart league at Two Stooges, include Malique Trumbo, Mike Frederick, Simon Anderson, and Troy Hughes. The Bald And The Beautiful (the first picture above), a team out of Drkulas, won 2nd place Level 4 in the 501 Team event. Team members include Andrew VonKaenel, Shannon VonKaenel, Dennis McGowan, and Greg Molnar. Lastly, the Mixed Cricket Doubles duo of Jamie Ohara & Vinny Gregerson, both Roddy’s Bar league players, won 2nd place in the Level 3 division.
MOMA Donations
At the tournament, MOMA raised money for the MOMA Scholarship Fund. A select number of college-bound students with industry ties are awarded scholarships each year. See our most recent scholarship recipients!
2024 Tournament
The MOMA tournament provides a great opportunity for players to compete against their peers. MOMA offers prize money and awards to top finishers. The 2024 MOMA State Dart Tournament dates are January 24-28 at Canterbury Park. Check the MOMA site for details.
