ATM Upgrade – Is it Time?

Did you know that nearly one-third of American consumers use an ATM at least once per week? And even more consumers use ATMs at least once or twice a month. With that many people using ATMs, ATM owners must keep up with not only compliance regulations, but also with the technology that so many Americans are accustomed to.

EMV Compliance for ATM Machines

We know, you’re probably sick and tired of hearing about EMV compliance, deadlines, upgrades – the list can go on and on. The good news is that a recent study by the ATM Industry Association (ATMIA) has shown that 9 out of 10 machines (91%) are EMV ready. This is up drastically from the beginning of 2016 where only 19% of machines were EMV ready and 57% in the start of 2017.

It is imperative that your ATM machines are EMV compliant (both EMV ready and fully enabled). Liability for fraud in non-EMV machines has switched from VISA and Mastercard (for example) to the individual ATM owner. If your ATM machines are not upgraded to be EMV enabled, you are risking liability for ATM fraud.

As of September 2018, the following software versions are required to be EMV Compliant.  Please check the versions by manufacturer below. If you are not running these versions, an ATM software upgrade is needed.
