2020 ATMIA Recap

ATMIA Conference recap 2020

Report from 2020 ATMIA Conference held February 11-13

by Dan Lieberman

I recently returned from the ATMIA conference in Houston, Texas. Here are some of the major highlights discussed at the meeting.

3G To Be Sunset By End of 2022

Don’t shoot the messenger! 3G service is currently scheduled to end for Verizon by the end of 2022 and for ATT by mid-2022. Start budgeting to upgrade your devices. There are several good options we can offer. Contact us for more information.

Contactless ATMs

VISA has started issuing more contactless credit cards. Within a few years, there may be initiative for expanding to ATMs. My belief is that this may be a few years off, but if contactless cards become popular on the credit card side, ATM adoption may happen faster. The good news is there will be kits for most current machines.

Bank Branches Continue To Shrink

The number of bank branches went from 95,000 to 83,000 in 2019. This is an opportunity for all of us. Reach out to your local bank and see if you can replace a closed branch with a branded ATM. You can still offer their customers free transactions and figure out a reimbursement plan.

Bitcoin

Many options, mixed results. Contact us for more information.

Cardtronics News

Cardtronics, the world’s largest ATM company, is deploying close to 2,000 ATM machines that take cash deposits. These are branded with major banks. The idea is to appeal to underbanked customers who deal primarily in cash.
